ECA Strategic Planning Session
The following is a Draft Document, and subject to revision and approval by ECA Board of Directors.

MISSION STATEMENT
Within Edgemont, through the efforts of a spirited and cohesive volunteer organization and support staff, we will:
- foster a sense of community
- provide a leadership forum and
- enhance social, cultural and recreational opportunities of the community in a fiscally responsible manner.
KEY DIRECTIONS
ORGANIZATION OF THE ECA
NEEDS: continuity, succession planning, renewal, broader base of volunteers.
ECA GOALS: To improve the effectiveness of the ECA by bringing definition to the roles and responsibilities in all activities.
CRIME PREVENTION
NEEDS: perception of safety, traffic concerns (speeding, short cuts, pedestrian crossing at schools, weather uniqueness, school drop-offs), awareness to all, responsiveness, establish a sense of ownership of assets of the community, promote Block Watch.
ECA GOALS: To promote an awareness of crime and safety matters to all residents and to establish a sense of ownership of the many assets of the community.
SENIORS
NEEDS: social meeting place, self-esteem, transportation, advertising events
ECA GOALS: To provide facilitation for the formation of an autonomous, self-sustaining seniors’ club, that will encourage their participation in the community.
YOUTH
NEEDS: safe spot for social activities, personal development, changing events, citizenship, mentoring.
ECA GOALS: see “Senior goals”. Add: To provide facilitation and mentoring for the youth of Edgemont.
YOUTH & FAMILY
NEEDS: resource (information) centre, awareness of the ECA, family networking, socializing, affordable programming.
ECA GOALS: To provide affordable child development programs and information for family support resources.
MULTI-CULTURALISM & DIVERSITY
NEEDS: language barrier, want to participate, venue for celebrations, liaison with ethnic communities, 35% of community is visible minority.
ECA GOALS: To provide communication and a liaison that will encourage mulitcultural participation in the community.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
NEEDS: business, churches, schools, City, adjacent communities, police & fire, EMS, influential citizens, sports, politics.
ECA GOALS: To establish a mutually beneficial relationship with key community groups that will enable their positive participation as citizens in the community.
ECA Annual General Meeting Wednesday, April 11th
