LEARNING IS THE WORK @ MOTHER MARY GREENE SCHOOL
The children at Mother Mary Greene have had a very busy month. We are immersed in our learning and in the Inquiry Based Learning strategies that are our learning focus.
Our grade 5 class is ‘inquiring’ into which region of Canada has a quality of life that would make us want to move there. Their presentations will be recorded. All students in the school will have an opportunity to view the presentations and vote on which region they are ‘sold’ on and to which they would move. Students are using a variety of learning skills, in small groups, to find out the information on their region. This independent inquiry project has our grade fives very excited!
Our community did a lot of learning during our Black and Orange Halloween day. We were a sea of orange and black as we practiced our skills in math and language through various ‘ghoulish’ activities. Our PA musthave been ‘spooked’ because the Monster Mash just started playing throughout the day! It was a fun way to learn and good exercise as the children were ‘mashing’ through the hallways. The children were delighted that the principal ‘trick or treated’. Each child chose a healthy treat, finger puppets or stickers, from her basket to celebrate the day.
Our support for our veterans was strong, especially at our Mass of Peace on November 9. All children wore their poppies and sang with beautiful voices as we reminded ourselves that only our personal peace with each other and our tolerance of everyone’s beliefs will allow us to maintain the freedom for which so many gave their lives. We are looking forward to our Advent of Our Lord Carol service on December 15 at 6:30.The joyful voices of our children will be joined in unison to celebrate the season of Advent and Christmas. Please drop by and see our celebration if you have an opportunity. We hope you’ll enjoy seeing our school‘decked out’ with Christmas lights in our windows starting on December 1.
From all of us at Mother Mary Greene, enjoy a peaceful and joy filled Christmas, Hanukkah and/or winter holiday season. Enjoy the school break with your family and friends.
