How You Can Help This Holiday Season

by Anneleise L., a volunteer with the Edgemont Youth press

During the holiday season, there’s one thing that slips from everyone’s mind: helping people in need. Less fortunate families often suffer during winter if they can’t afford snow gear and children who don’t receive presents for Christmas often are embarrassed to even talk about the holiday. Listed here are a few ways you can help spread Christmas joy through donations

  1. The Magic of Christmas is a completely volunteer-run program that works with Calgary transit to deliver presents to those in need. This program is completely non-profit. You can help out with The Magic of Christmas by donating money and by volunteering to be Santa or one of his elves!
  2. Operation Christmas Child is a Church-based program delivered by Samaritans Purse Canada. In over one hundred countries around the world, they supply churches with small gifts to help spread the gospel and bring Christmas cheer to everyone. You can help out at this program by adopting a shoebox! Each shoebox is twelve dollars and supplies money for Operation Christmas Child to give out gifts.
  3. The final program I will list is the Christmas program by The Mustard Seed. Much like the Food Bank, The Mustard Seed has a list of items online that they’d like to supply to people in need. You can contribute either by donating these items or by donating money. Their website has a list of their locations that you can donate at.

Thank you to everyone who is helping this holiday season! Any donations of money, items, or time will help someone in Calgary have the best holiday season possible.
