February, a fun filled month!

Welcome to 2024! February is full of exciting things this year, such as Family day on the 19th and Valentine’s Day on the 14th!
Family Day:
The Military Museum is hosting a fun event on the 19th, perfect for the whole family! Some activities will include gallery tours, book signing, scavenger hunts, and exciting crafts for kids!
Black History Month:
February is also Black history month. Black history month goes from February 1st to February 29th, 2024. It is a time to reflect and learn more about the history of black people, their history, their impact, and their contribution to Canada both in the past and in the present.
Groundhog Day:
Another exciting event that takes place in February is Groundhog Day! Groundhog Day is February 2nd, 2024.
Each province that takes part in Groundhog Day has its own groundhog. Alberta’s groundhog is named Balzac Billy and lives in the town of Balzac, Alberta.
Each year, on the second of February, Balzac Billy peaks out from his burrow in attempts to see his shadow. Legend has it that if he sees his shadow, winter will supposedly last 6 more weeks. If a shadow is not seen the legend forecasts an early spring will be up ahead.
