ELM Report – December 2020

December 22, 2020

On October 30, 2020 the Edgemont Community Centre held the first City-mandated ELM (Enhanced Landscape Maintenance) 5-year reaffirmation vote.  It was a lovely day and our turnout was amazing. The voting procedure was a bit of a challenge this year due to Covid-19 and the AHS restrictions and rules. We managed to work within these boundaries and have a safe voting venue.

We had a total of 418 votes of which 380 voted to continue the program and 38 voted not to continue the program. We want to thank everyone for taking time out of their busy day to come and vote and show their interest in our community.

We also want to thank the ELM committee and all the amazing volunteers who helped make our vote day run smoothly.

THANK YOU to:

ELM Committee: Jo-Ann Wither, Rick Wierzbicki, Min Cao, and Vishal Dalal and Bill Kirk.

Volunteers: Paul Clark, Helen Campbell, Barb Elms, Joan and Bill McFetridge, Patricia Cao, Linda Williams.

Thank you to Sheldon Kingcott who has been helping me throughout the year with the ELM program. He has spent many long hours organizing, monitoring, supervising, communicating and collecting fabulous pictures of our beautiful community. He worked diligently with the City to put together all the necessary information for the reaffirmation vote and helped design a safe environment for the voting process.

Thank you to the office staff who directed askELM questions to Jo-Ann.

Thank you to Elaine Scobie, Elspeth Kirk and Brett Plaizier who managed all the ELM social media and website.

Last, but not least, we owe a big thank you to our ELM landscape contractor. Wayne Thomas, Geraldine Henwood and their teams at Able Landscaping are fantastic to deal with; they are competent, diligent, creative and generous. We are very lucky to have them working with us. Their hard work produced the best summer ELM season yet.

Our seasonal displays once again will be provided by Barbara Kam at Edenscapes Gardening. The displays will be placed between mid-November and mid-December, providing our community with continuing beauty.  Please give a hardy wave to her crew as you drive by during the display placements.

The ELM Committee will be busy throughout November and December planning and preparing our 2021 season.

As 2020 comes to a close the ELM Committee and volunteers want to wish everyone a safe and healthy holiday season.
